Social Media Marketing: Are YOU missing out on the benefits?

If you’re not already on social media as a business, and after reading last week’s top tips on social media marketing, are looking at creating a profile for yourself, then you may be interested to read about the advantages below. These days, you can’t get away from social media – which, from a marketing point of view, is a good thing.  Being active as a business on social media can bring a whole host of benefits to your business.

You’ll create brand awareness

Even if your social media exposure is very simple – whether a Facebook business page, LinkedIn account or Twitter voice – by using your chosen platform and encouraging your network to like and share your content you will be automatically increasing brand awareness.  Even if they aren’t yet aware of it, your customers are becoming more likely to think of you next time they need to purchase your product.

It’s great for relationship building

For years, salesmen have known that by creating a good relationship with a customer means you can turn good feeling into good sales.  Social media allows you to create relationships that your customers feel are real and personal.  This translates into better conversion rates, higher customer satisfaction and improved brand loyalty.

Once you start a following, you can generate more traffic to your website by encouraging your followers to visit.  This, in turn, will lead to improved search engine rankings so that when people look for your website “the old-fashioned way” they are more likely to find it first.

You’ll get to know your customer

Your relationship isn’t all one way.  You can track who is following and sharing your content to gain insights into who is actually interested in your brand.  You can usually obtain readership statistics and break it down into various segments such as age, location, time of day etc.  But that’s not all.  Whilst nurturing those all so important relationships you can see what is important to your customers and what their opinions are, which in turn can show you how to appeal to them better.

It’s cheap as chips

Social media is incredibly cost effective for the return it promises.  Most platforms are free to start with.  Even promoted content or targeted adverts cost pennies per view and the nature of social media means that one view could turn into three or for shares between friends. This can net you a larger audience for far less than you’d pay for traditional marketing materials. You don’t even need to be an expert at marketing to go viral – some of the world’s biggest brands have boosted their profile purely by accident!

You’ll be a social media expert resource

Finally, if you have a strong social media presence, you can establish yourself as an authority and expert on your market segment. Post informative content that shows off your skills, knowledge and expertise, engaging your customers and encouraging them to rely on you instead of the competition.

If you’re not reaping the benefits of social media as a business, it may well be time for you to consider it. With all the advantages above, even if you choose just one platform, a social media presence, done right, will be sure to bring results.
